After a year full of lows, Al Roker and Deborah Roberts deserve a year full of highs. The couple celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary this past weekend. The couple sent touching tributes to one another on Instagram along with reminiscences of their former relationships.
“28 years ago, @deborahrobertsabc pledged to stand with her fans through thick and thin, good times and bad. Good and awful times. The family she has given me, though, is the best gift. Roker, 69, captioned his image, “Happy Anniversary, sweetheart.
Roberts, 62, continually stood by her husband’s side throughout the Today weatherman’s string of life-threatening medical crises the year before, proving her devotion to him in both good and terrible times.
Roker included a carousel of pictures in his anniversary post, including several shots of the couple on their wedding day. He also shared a photo of one of their children when they were younger, as well as one of the pair with former president Barack Obama and former first woman Michelle Obama.
Roberts took the opportunity to pay tribute to her 28-year marriage.
She sent a sentimental message along with a carousel of pictures of the couple over the years, one of which showed them grinning next to a cake that was decorated to resemble The New York Times front page announcing their wedding.
“Wow! In the past 28 years. We started out on this trip with a few anxieties, a lot of enthusiasm, and hearts full of optimism. And it’s been a really exciting adventure. We’ve learned to appreciate each moment after this last year. You have me, and I have you. I’m also there where you are. Dearest, happy anniversary. Let’s continue creating memories.
Roker and Roberts came to know one another in 1990 while they were both working for NBC. Roberts later joined ABC. The couple’s two children are Leila, 24, and Nick, 21, together. Roker’s other child from a previous marriage, Courtney, is 35 years old.
