The actress Jennifer Aniston, star of Friends, claims she was unaware of the extent of “anxiety and self-torture” Matthew Perry endured while assuming the character of Chandler Bing. The 54-year-old actress, who portrayed the affluent girl in the comedy who turned into a responsible adult, acknowledged that she was unaware of some of the admissions made during the Friends reunion episodes.
The updated information does fill up some gaps, though. “I didn’t understand the level of anxiety and self-torture [that] was put on Matthew Perry, if he didn’t get that laugh, and the devastation that he felt,” the Murder Mystery star stated on the Today show. Upon the ensemble’s first reunion in 17 years, the 54-year-old actor, who played Chandler Bing in the sitcom, opened up about the constraints he placed on himself.

He had admitted that he would “go into convulsions” if his alleged joke failed to elicit the kind of laughs he was seeking for from the audience. He stated on Friends: The Reunion, “I felt like I was going to die if they didn’t laugh, and it’s definitely not healthy.”
“I would freak out if I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to.” “You didn’t tell us that then,” Phoebe Buffay’s character Lisa Kudrow said, expressing her amazement at the words during the episode, which aired in 2021.
In a different portion of her Today interview, Jennifer revealed that she was romantically involved with her co-star David Schwimmer, who played Ross Geller. “I believe there was a connection to unfulfilled love,” she remarked. “I believe there was something that had to do with that because David and I still love each other,” the speaker said.
“And you were investing in something that was extremely relatable: the person you wanted to be with but couldn’t seem to work things out with, or the one you could never have.”
This occurred almost two years before Matthew passed away, following the 54-year-old star’s discovery asleep in a hot pool. Apart from the anxiety he had while cracking jokes, Matthew has been candid about his battles with drug use. He stated that he overdosed on opiates at the age of 49, which resulted in the rupture of his colon.
He survived and began the process of getting better, even though the family was informed by the physicians that his chances of survival were only 2%. He was unable to even watch Friends repeats due to his drug addiction. He claimed that he promised the other five gifted actors on the set that he would not be “wasted” at work.
“I was working with five people, and I respected them too much.” I was therefore never inebriated when working.
