Among the numerous instances are Air Canada, French Bee, TAP Air Portugal, Delta, Lufthansa, and United Airlines. It should come as no surprise that each has its own set of laws, regulations, and standards, including restrictions on the dog’s breed, size, and age. For instance, several airlines require puppies to be at least eight weeks old before they may travel. Other airlines, however, demand that puppies be at least 12 weeks old. United Airlines, on the other hand, does not have any restrictions on weight or breed, but they do ask that dogs be in a container that fits beneath the seat in front of you, whether it be soft or hard. Service animals, however, are permitted to travel in the cabin without a carrier. They must have a place of their own in these situations.
In nearly all instances of airlines allowing pets in the cabin, service animals do not include emotional support animals. Only as pets are they allowed to travel. As a result, they will only be permitted to travel in the cabin in their own seat if they are able to offer medical assistance beyond merely easing their worry. However, if they fit the standards, emotional support animals and other pets are allowed to travel in the cabin.
