Woman’s kindness to single dad reveals heartbreaking connection: Bracelet from her child’s burial on his daughter

One woman’s entire world was turned upside down on what appeared to be a typical Thursday.

One day as Linette was shopping, she saw a dad at the store struggling to calm his small daughter. The child was having a tantrum, and her father was at a loss for what to do.

Linette made the decision to go over and provide assistance because the yelling would not cease for another minute or two. She had a daughter of her own, so she was good with kids, but she had died five years earlier. After his wife left them, the father, who was clearly worn out and burdened by more than just parenting stress, revealed that it had been a difficult year for him and his daughter.

After telling him not to worry, Linette gave the young girl a box of cereal, and she began to sob less while holding the box close to her chest. That’s when Linette’s heart began to race. The girl had a small cross in the center of a personalized silver bracelet. It was identical to the one Linette buried alongside her leukemia-stricken daughter.

The resemblance was too strong to be accidental.

Linette couldn’t stop thinking, though, how a stranger’s daughter could have that bracelet. She said “goodbye” and carried on shopping since she was perplexed and needed answers, but the store didn’t have any. But she couldn’t shake the sense that there was more to discover.

Linette decided to do some research because she couldn’t stop thinking about the bracelet over the next few days. She came into an article about the funeral director who had presided over her daughter’s service while browsing the internet. When he was discovered stealing and selling the deceased’s personal belongings to unwary purchasers, he became embroiled in a scandal. After finding out, Linette was certain that the girl’s bracelet belonged to her, Emily.

After a while, Linette managed to get in touch with Bob, the girl’s father. She informed him how much that piece of jewelry meant to her and explained everything. Bob was really sensitive and understanding. He volunteered to assist her in establishing a case against the funeral home and consented to give her back the bracelet. He turned out to be an attorney, and he was delighted to represent her in court.

As they gathered evidence for their case, Linette and Bob met frequently. Linette enjoyed having Bob’s daughter attend several of the meetings. She made her think of Emily.

They went into the courtroom with the intention of winning the case on the day of the trial. The judge decided in their favor, directing the funeral home to issue a formal apology and pay a sizeable payout. Linette was relieved when the verdict was read. She was certain that justice had been done for her beloved daughter.

Bob and Linette developed a close relationship over time. A new family was born out of what began as an odd occurrence.

For Linette, the silver bracelet that had previously represented loss now symbolized a new chapter in her life.
