Only one of the eighteen songs on Kane Brown’s album The High Road brought him to tears throughout the composition process.
That’s “When You Forget,” the project’s last song. The artist and his family are currently dealing with a personal crisis that is directly referenced in the song. Brown shared a picture of his grandparents on Instagram, stating that the song was inspired by his grandfather’s fight with Alzheimer’s.
“The most diligent man I have ever met and will ever meet! Brown writes, “I wish I could be half the man he is now.”
He goes on to say, “This is the only song on the album that made me cry while I was writing.” “I hope everyone going through the same thing my family and I are can relate to this song, as he has been forgetting some things lately. Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease.”
As he wrapped up his homage, the singer remarked, “I love you, pepaw.”

In addition to two duets with his wife, Katelyn, The High Road has songs that Brown has previously written for family members.
“When You Forget” is also an emotional song for his grandma, who was his grandfather’s wife, he recently told Holler.
He recalls, “You could hear my Nana crying over the phone when I called her and told her that we were going to write a song about him.”
Last week, The High Road was released.
Lyrics to “When You Forget” by Kane Brown:
I entered the room and met your eyes. And I could see at that moment that you weren’t aware of The guy I’ve grown into, and it broke my heart But sometimes that’s just how time works.
Your memory is deteriorating, and I’m devastated. If you’re wondering who you are after looking in the mirror
The chorus
You continue to be our hero. You remain the man. A fantastic friend and a hell of a father Any issue can be resolved with a wrench and a few words. Our family’s skeleton in front of that church You fulfilled all of your commitments. For better or worse / This is what I’m writing you. So you can remember when you forget.
When you taught me to drive, we were turning roads. That ring has been on you since July of 1955. You kept the lights on in that house and food on that table. Therefore, never doubt or ask questions.
Repetition of the chorus
If you look in that mirror and question who you are, it’s heartbreaking to see your memories slipping.
