Gwyneth Paltrow responds to outrage over her ‘vagina candle’

Gwyneth Paltrow, an actress, has long been regarded as the wellness and health expert. She typically releases goods for her business, Goop, that are meant to make people’s lives better.

One product in particular, though, drew a lot of attention and criticism.

Gwyneth Paltrow, 52, has no remorse about the contentious candle she introduced with her business, Goop.

What the label said about the $75-per-piece candle caused it to go viral in 2020. The candle had a straightforward label that said, “This Smells Like my Vagina,” on a white background.

Gwyneth Paltrow has chosen to talk about the item years after it became widely popular. She responded to everyone who condemned her in an interview conducted this past weekend at the 2025 Mindvalley Manifesting Summit.

“You know that product is so fascinating because one day, while we were experimenting with different scents, I smelled something and thought, ‘Oh, that smells like.'”

According to her, it began as a joke with Douglas Little, a Heretic perfumer. Little, however, made the decision to go farther.

“I was kidding,” she continued. “He [Douglas] then said, ‘Oh, we ought to make that a candle and post it on the website.'” “Yeah, definitely,” I said, thinking he was kidding. Right there, that sounds like a winner.

But then “all of a sudden, it was literally on the website,” Paltrow said, laughing as she recalled the incident.

Then, once more, we disrupted the internet. After that, it took us a while to move on from that one,” she thought.

The actress and wellness enthusiast chose to leave the candle on the website in spite of the criticism it received.

She explained, “I kept it on the site because I think we’re socialized to feel a lot of shame about this aspect of women’s sexuality, and I kind of loved this kind of punk rock idea.”

“We are awesome and beautiful.” She also had three words for everybody who disagrees and criticizes her: “Go f*** yourself.”

Geranium, citrus bergamot, cedar, Damask rose, and ambrette seed were among the scents of the candle, which is no longer available.

Following the success of the candle, Gwyneth Paltrow introduced two additional fragrances: “This Smells Like My Orgasm” and “This Smells Like My Prenup.”

She released “Hands Off My Vagina” in 2022, just following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The business said that it would contribute $25 for each candle to the Reproductive Freedom Project of the ACLU Foundation.
