A German Shepherd was sitting next to a soldier who was laying on the chilly airport floor, barking at onlookers: When the crowd understood why the dog was acting strangely, they were appalled.
The airport was crowded that morning, with people hurrying, waiting in line for coffee, or watching planes take off from the windows.
Before individuals began to pause in one of the passageways, everything was proceeding as usual. While some feared a serious incident had occurred, others believed a video was being recorded.
A young man in a military uniform laid on the floor, directly on the chilly tiles. His eyes were closed and his face looked pallid. A big, powerful German Shepherd sat next to him, watching him intently. The dog remained motionless while keeping a close eye on everyone who went by. Every time someone came near it, it rose and began to snarl. It made the obvious indication, “Do not come closer,” without attacking.
As they looked at one another, some whispered:
— How is he doing?
— Is he breathing?
Shall we make an ambulance call?
The dog gave the security officers a serious look and let out loud warning barks as they hurried up to meet it. The gathering stiffened; many believed the soldier had passed out, and his devoted dog would not allow anybody to approach.
A young man then moved forward to see if the soldier was still breathing, but the dog boldly and loudly barked. The soldier’s eyes suddenly opened in the midst of this difficult situation. At that point, everyone realized why the dog was acting strangely 
The soldier sat up a little, yawned, and calmly glanced at the dog and then at the people. The audience froze.
— It’s alright, — he smiled, a little embarrassed. I’m simply worn out. I haven’t slept much during my lengthy travels. Out on the field, we sleep in worse conditions. Here, at least, the floor is level.
He had simply laid down to take a short nap, and his dog had been watching over him the entire time to make sure no one would wake him up, touch him, or take anything from him.
The crowd’s tension instantly subsided. Some chuckled, while others grinned:
— You have such a guard, sir.
Persuaded that everything was fine, the security guard insisted that the man get up and proceed to the waiting area. His respiration and pulse were both normal, according to a medical staff member who was already on standby.
Those nearby, who had been concerned at first, now exhibited concern: “Good that it was nothing serious.” “What a clever dog, a real guardian.”
After thanking everyone, the soldier stood up and walked calmly away with the German Shepherd in the direction of the waiting room. For a long time, the passengers who saw the scene remarked about how intelligent and devoted the dog was.
