Her husband went abroad and cut off all contact… She stayed behind to care for her paralyzed mother-in-law for 20 years… and the ending was heartbreaking

Her spouse left the country and stopped communicating with her. For twenty years, she remained to care for her mother-in-law, who was paralyzed. and the conclusion was devastating.

She was barely 25 when he departed for a distant job.

He departed with assurances. Then he vanished.

No letters, no calls.

She wept for days. but wiped away her tears and started making porridge for her bedridden mother-in-law, who had suffered a stroke and was totally reliant on her.

Her neighbors suggested that she leave, go back to her parents, and start over.

She merely grinned, though.

Her mother-in-law had embraced her as a daughter from the first day of her marriage.

The elderly woman had once spent the entire night by her side when she was quite sick, checking her medication and softly petting her forehead.

And her mother-in-law would grab her hand and speak tenderly, “You are everything to me,” whenever she felt hopeless.

So she remained.

She assisted with physiotherapy, cooked, cleaned, and changed the sheets every day.

When the elderly woman trembled on cold evenings, she used oil to rub her arms and legs until she slept soundly.

Despite her exhaustion, she continued to eat her porridge spoon by spoon while being observed by eyes full of silent appreciation.

It was twenty years later. She started to have gray hair.

The locals would utter:

“The heart of a few people is so pure.”
She was admired by many, and some even desired to wed her.

However, her response was usually gentle:

My mother-in-law remains in this place. I can’t abandon her.

The elderly grandmother became weaker than ever one day.

She called her, grasped her shaking hand, and whispered in a scarcely audible voice:

“I’m grateful for everything. However, I’ve been keeping something from you all this time.

Priya held her breath and leaned closer.

Amma said quietly:

“Your spouse wanted me to sign the divorce papers when he filed for one.

I declined. Anger drove him out.

He was involved in an accident a few years ago.
He died.
His ashes were shipped from overseas. They were stored beneath the altar by me.

Priya’s heart constricted, but she stopped crying.

Amma continued, saying, “The land deed is in the closet. It’s in your name now.
I didn’t have any daughters. However, you’ve always been mine.

Amma died in a calm manner.

Her husband went abroad and cut off all contact… She stayed behind to care for her paralyzed mother-in-law for 20 years… and the ending was heartbreaking

The entire hamlet came to bid her farewell during her funeral.

When they saw Priya kneeling by the coffin, silently expressing her anguish from the bottom of her heart, everyone started crying.

Priya opened the closet a few days later.
She discovered a savings account with almost two million rupees in addition to the land deed.

Through the sale of vegetables from a tiny garden, the rental of a portion of the land, and the setting aside of a portion of her pension, Amma had been covertly saving for years under Priya’s name.

Priya made renovations to the house on the first anniversary of Amma’s passing.

She set up a little store in the front yard and gave it the name:

“The Porridge House of Amma.”

Consumers made the best payment they could.

Others made no payment at all.

Priya grinned when asked why she didn’t charge more.

“I made Amma porridge, and she lived off of it.”

I now make my living by selling oatmeal and lending a helpful hand to others.

That is more than sufficient.

The venue was packed that afternoon.

An elderly woman who was shivering in one corner was gently enjoying the warm porridge.

Glancing up, she said:

“This porridge tastes great, my kid. It makes the heart sing.

Tears filled Priya’s eyes. She thought of Amma.

Leaning forward a little, she murmured:

“Madam… I created it with all of the love you used to give me.
