Due to the shoddy table setting, my mother-in-law yelled at me in front of the guests and then raised her hand: but then I did something unexpected
We had invited friends and family to our wedding anniversary, which was a significant day. Running around the kitchen, making sure that everyone had everything they needed on the table, I was trying my hardest. However, my mother-in-law entered the room as soon as everyone had taken their seats. It was obvious at first glimpse that she wasn’t feeling well.
She scowled as she turned to face the table and yelled, shamelessly,: — Is this how you greet guests? Is this a party, you say? The way everything is set up is crooked!
The room fell silent as the visitors looked at one another. I attempted to say something and smile, but her yelling only got louder.
— Does my son deserve this? Which type of housewife do you have? I am being humiliated in front of everyone by you!
My mother-in-law, overcome with emotion, put her hand up against mine as I struggled to contain my emotions. Nobody anticipated this from her, and everyone gasped.
In front of my loved ones, I felt humiliated. My eyes were watering, and I put my palms over my face to stop me from yelling.
However, I did something that I do not regret at that same moment, in front of every guest. She was worthy.
I felt something crack within of me. I approached the table, picked up a big dish of salad, and silently spilled it directly on top of my mother-in-law’s pricey blue dress. I assumed the family would point the finger at me, but they didn’t.
The room erupted in a startled gasp before someone spoke up:
“You made the right decision!” exclaimed my sister. That kind of humiliation is unacceptable!
My husband’s brother added, “How long do we have to put up with her bullying?” Mom, you’ve gone too far.
Bewildered and pallid, my mother-in-law stood there with salad on her dress. She had no support. Everyone, on the other hand, supported me.
“It’s evident how much work she put in,” my uncle said. You made a fool of yourself.
I felt the truth was on my side for the first time at that moment. My mother-in-law knew I could defend myself, so she never again attempted to treat me that way after that day.
