A one-year-old girl found herself in the middle of a deserted savannah, only a few meters from a massive lion. However, everyone was startled by what the untamed animal did 
Calm and educative was the promise of the forest trip. The parents were sure their young daughter was resting soundly in her stroller as they took pictures, listened to the guide’s anecdotes, and relished the view of the untamed landscape. No one heard the girl awake amid the rustle of leaves and the chattering of birds.
As she got out of the pram and started to crawl on the reddish savannah soil while clumsily on all fours, her inquisitive eyes glistened. The parents didn’t realize the pram was empty since they were too preoccupied with the view.
The girl kept walking away until she was alone behind low bushes and no longer part of the group. A massive lion spotted her there, on the path.
His eyes were heavy and menacing, and his mane gleamed in the sunlight. A few meters away from the child, the predator emerged from the woods and came to a halt.
Across the savannah came a great roar. His power made it seem as if the ground itself were quivering. In that situation, any adult would have been paralyzed with terror. The young child, who had just recently started to crawl, was unaware that the king of creatures was standing in front of her and that one move may be the difference between her life and death.
She viewed the lion as merely an odd, large “toy.” As though playing, she clapped her hands and attempted to grab his paw.
Slowly, the lion started to approach. He walked warily yet tensely, as though he were about to jump. It appeared as though the child’s destiny would be decided at any moment by a final roar.
However, the unimaginable occurred at that same moment.
A snake slithered forward from the grass, only a few paces from the child. Its tongue fluttered in the air, its slender body contorted, and its eyes remained focused on the young girl. Its razor-sharp teeth might have sank into her small palm in just one more second.
The entire savannah was filled with the echo of the lion’s roar. He bounded forward, aiming at the snake rather than the youngster. The menace vanished in an instant as his strong paw hit the earth. Not even time had passed for the snake to deliver its lethal stroke.
Unaware of what had transpired, the girl merely giggled and extended her hand to the lion. And he remained at her side, seemingly conscious of what he had done. His eyes had changed from being predatory to being vigilant and almost protective.
The parents rushed onto the path at that point. They shouted in terror as they observed the scene: their child on the ground, a large lion next to her, and a dead snake nearby. Unable to believe her sight, the mother covered her face with her hands as the father hurried forward.
However, the lion only gave the adults one final look before backing off a few steps and gently vanishing into the verdant bushes with a tail flick. He was gone as abruptly as he had come.
