No one would have believed it if it hadn’t been captured on camera, but the man was resting on the porch when a snake slithered toward him from the bushes. It slid over his thigh, then over his arm, and as the poisonous head reached his face, something occurred 
The man chose to spend some time relaxing on his porch after a hard and demanding workday. He closed his eyes and took a seat in an antique wooden rocker. His eyelids naturally closed due to exhaustion on this hot, sunny day.
He fell asleep without even realizing it, rocking gently to the chair’s gentle creak.
A half hour or so went by. Everything was quiet and motionless. Just then, a thin but extremely poisonous snake slithered out from the dense shrubs close to the porch. It moved smoothly, barely perceptible.
It approached the steps warily, as though it could smell the perspiration and the warmth of the human body. When the snake’s icy body touched his shoe and started to slowly ascend his pant leg, the man was sound asleep and didn’t even wake up.
The snake continued to ascend, first across his stomach and then around his leg before coiling around his arm. Its dark eyes stared at the man’s face while its forked tongue wavered in the air.
The snake’s poisonous fangs were only a few millimeters away from his skin when it nearly touched his neck. It would have been over in a matter of seconds with just one bite. However, just as the snake was about to attack, an entirely unexpected event occurred 
An angry barking abruptly pierced the silence. After laying in the grass for a while, the man’s dog sprung to his feet, lifted his hackles, and ran for the porch.
With a snarl, he lunged for his owner and quickly buried his fangs into the snake’s body. The snake screamed in surprise and writhed on the ground. The dog refused to let go; he threw it to the edge of the yard with a powerful jerk, and it vanished back into the bushes with a slight rustle.
The man looked about in bewilderment, unable to comprehend what had happened, as he awoke to the loud barking and the abrupt shock of the chair. The dog was standing next to him, panting, eyes alert, ears flattened.
He didn’t even notice the glint of scales between the wooden planks beside his chair, thinking the dog had simply become frightened of something.
It wasn’t until that night, when he was watching security camera footage, that he realized the truth. His heart tensed when the frames showed the dog attacking the snake after it had crawled over his body.
He spent a considerable amount of time that evening sitting next to his dog, softly petting his head and murmuring:
— I’m grateful, pal. I was saved by you.
