Emma Jones, a 23-year-old from Wigton, Cumbria, was clearly nervous when she entered the Britain’s Got Talent stage. She only wanted to “give it a try” and see if the judges enjoyed her voice, thus her goals were modest. She appeared overpowered by the large crowd and the presence of the famous judges due to her modest and timid personality. The judges were obviously not prepared for the strong skill that was hidden beneath her reserved persona, so this nervousness created one of the audition’s most striking contrasts.
Even though she was nervous at first, Emma started singing, and the bashful competitor instantly became a beautiful voice. The judges complimented her voice as “fantastic, beautiful, and absolutely amazing,” supposing it to be an operatic or classical work. Her performance was met with thunderous acclaim from the audience, who were enthralled by the sheer quality and control of her voice. The scene was quite moving, especially when the camera caught Emma’s astonished and lovely response to the audience’s overwhelmingly positive response—a glaring indication that she didn’t often get this kind of acclaim.
All of the judges expressed astonishment and admiration. Few individuals could sing as well as Emma, so David Walliams advised her to perform “like a winner” and to have confidence. Amanda Holden praised her charming nature and described it as a “beautiful audition.” Her performance was deemed “one of the most beautiful auditions we’ve had all day” by Simon Cowell, who was clearly impressed. Once anxious, Emma Jones was able to secure a unanimous four “yeses” and advance to the next stage of the tournament.
