Newfoundland singer Jacob Lewis entered the Canada’s Got Talent stage with a tale that won over the judges and viewers right away. He revealed that in order to support his family, he took on a challenging job working on an oil rig in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. In order to spend more time with his wife and their four-year-old twin boys, who were born prematurely with a number of difficulties, he has subsequently relocated to an office job. He had one goal in mind: to provide a better life for his kids.
Jacob gave his all during his performance, delivering a stirring version of “A Bag of Roses.” His performance enthralled the entire crowd, and the emotion in his voice was evident. The judges and audience were clearly struck by his openness and vulnerability, which were evident in every note. Everyone found great resonance in his sharing of his journey and heart, which went beyond simply singing a song.
His talent and commitment were not overlooked. Judge Shania Twain referred to him as a “rock star” and commended him for his humility and for putting all of his heart into the performance. She was so affected that she hit the Golden Buzzer, launching Jacob into the competition’s next round and a shower of gold confetti onto the stage. Shania raced to the platform to embrace Jacob, who was overcome with emotion and dropped to his knees. It was a lovely and memorable event that demonstrated the value of pursuing your aspirations and the strength of a father’s love.
