Judges Laugh As Band Sings “Les Miserables” Classic, But The Boys Prove Them Wrong

Sometimes a “Got Talent” show’s auditions are so astonishingly wonderful that you can watch them repeatedly and always feel chills. You will remember this performance for a lifetime.

As they took the stage for Britain’s Got Talent, five young men proudly announced their group, Collabro, to the audience. After discovering that the group had only been together for a month, Simon Cowell rolled his eyes at the judges, clearly thinking, “Here we go again, another boy band tryout.” “After only one month together, what gives you the impression that you can win Britain’s Got Talent?” The question was asked by Judge Alesha Dixon. “I think it’s natural chemistry,” the group leader blurted out. In answer, Judge Amanda Holden bent her head to hide her smile.

Alesha said, “That’s beautiful. Remove it. That’s just what Collabro accomplished. They began with the stirring and beautiful solo entrance of “Stars” from Les Misérables. The audience became silent at once. As the performance continued, the chorus stunned everyone with their performance as another member offered a powerful solo. Wonder-filled expressions replaced sardonic smiles. What followed was an exciting performance that prompted a standing ovation before they had even completed their song.

Judges have never eaten so much humble pie after only one performance. Amanda Holden, the group’s original snickerer, summed up the performance best when she remarked, “That was bloody brilliant.” Like in a fairy tale, the one-month-old group’s “natural chemistry” propelled them all the way to the finals and ultimately led to their victory on Britain’s Got Talent 2014.

After becoming viral, Collabro’s rendition of “Stars” has amassed over 51 million views on YouTube. Their story highlights the importance of talent, tenacity, and natural chemistry and reveals that sometimes the most remarkable things come from the most unexpected sources.
