She Left Her Job to Chase Music, Then One Song Brought Down the Golden Confetti

Singer Sharon Irving from Chicago

Sharon Irving walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage at 29 with a big decision already behind her. A year and a half earlier she had left her job to pursue music full time, and since then she had been hustling to make it work.

She grew up in Chicago singing in church. Her grandfather was a Baptist preacher who marched with Dr. King. As a child she was really shy and really afraid of being on stage, so standing there in front of the judges already meant a lot. 🙏

When she started singing “Take Me to Church,” the room went completely still. Her voice moved from soft and controlled to huge and powerful, and the audience hung on every line.

When she finished, the judges could hardly find the words. One of them reached for the Golden Buzzer, and gold confetti rained down on Sharon as the audience cheered for her. ✨
