Stories That Capture the True Magic of the Season

I gave a student one of my dad’s old books wrapped in recycled gift paper because my family was so impoverished that we couldn’t afford a present. She had given me the newest Barbie in exchange. She broke down when she saw my gift.

Her mother arrived at school the following day, looking solemn, and asked to see me. When she saw me, her look softened and she suddenly broke into a smile. She gave me a bag full of presents, including new Christmas attire, a Ken doll, and the Barbie’s matching automobile. I felt overpowered.

But it didn’t stop there. She told me to wait after school because she was taking me and her daughter to lunch, and I was so shocked that I stopped in disbelief. I had never been to a restaurant before.

We became great friends, and her daughter, who had before been angry, was now kind to me. Even though we live in different towns, we are still friends at the age of 24.
I first experienced the true wonder of Christmas because to that mother’s generosity. I will always remember that. Since my family is now financially secure, I give back each year by spending the holidays assisting a youngster in need.
