Everybody has experienced bullying in one form or another.
We might have been the bully ourselves, witnessed someone else being bullied, or even been the victim. Every day, a lot of kids, teenagers, and even adults endure physical and psychological bullying that makes their lives extremely difficult.
Melbourne, Australia’s Cassidy Trevan was all too familiar with that.
She had endured years of bullying. The majority of the bullying was psychological, but there were a few instances where it became physical.
At school and online, she was assaulted and called horrible names. Her family’s house was also vandalized.Distribute
She was unable to attend school because of how horrible things had gotten. It was simply too much. Even after speaking with the bullies, nothing changed.
She was prepared to try school again after being absent for an entire semester and receiving assistance. To get used to it, she initially worked two days a week.
The girls who mistreated her said they were sorry. At this point, they even desired to be her buddies. They asked her whether she would want to accompany them to a festival.
She wanted to, of course. The girls had previously mistreated her, but she needed friends more than that because she had been shunned for so long.
Cassidy was unaware of the girls’ scheme, which was more ridiculous than anyone could have imagined.
After arranging for two older men to rape Cassidy, the girls took her to a neighboring home.
While the boys alternated raping Cassidy, the girls waited outside. Her age was thirteen.
Cassidy called the police to report the event, but sadly, there was insufficient evidence to pursue the case. Everyone involved got away with it.
Even after moving and Cassidy’s mother, Linda, moved her to a new school, the bullies continued to target her. even even contacted her mother and asked to speak with her, and even accosted her in stores.
Despite her best efforts, Linda was forced to watch her daughter’s condition worsen. Cassidy eventually found it difficult to get out of bed in the morning.
She committed suicide in December of 2015.
Linda discovered a note Cassidy had written after she committed suicide. A letter that ought to be read by all. A letter addressed to all bullies. A letter to all victims of bullying.
“I was raped by some of the pupils who currently attend (school name withheld) when I was a student there. I am aware that this may already come across as attention-seeking, but it is not at all. I’ll also go over my many motivations for doing this.
My goal is to alert others—mostly students, but also parents—about what transpired because I’m concerned that if they could harm me, they could try to harm other children. In fact, you have the ability to prevent this from occurring. It’s difficult to believe, I know, but keep in mind that the individuals who did this to me were students at (omitted). It’s true, though.
I’m not taking this action to exact revenge on the kids who sexually assaulted me, orchestrated the rape, harassed me about it, made fun of me for it, or anything else. I want to be clear that I’m not doing this to get attention, as I previously stated.
I’m taking this action because the school now has over 1500 pupils enrolled in grades 7–12, and they need to be informed. I’ll go into more detail later, but I feel this way because of what happened to me and because the school officials did nothing to assist me. It is now my responsibility to alert you all to what transpired and to warn you. (This is what truly happened, not just what you may have heard at school.)
However, I’m doing this for me as well. After a year and a half, I want to be left alone at last. The number of students at (omitted) who have heard stories about me and, strangely enough, who continue to do so now is astounding. I still receive Facebook messages from students I’ve never met calling me a slut. I’ve switched schools and homes, but the bullying and calls continue. I can’t stop people from spreading rumors, but since it’s still being discussed, at least I could try to communicate the truth about what actually happened. To be honest, though, this is especially true for pupils who are in risk of those students and are not aware of this.
I’m Cassidy Trevan, and I was sexually assaulted.
I promise it’s worth the fight if somebody ever tries this on you! Fight! You will, like me, regret it for the rest of your life if you don’t. You’re capable.
Take caution. Take caution. Keep yourself safe.
Australian Channel 9 carried the letter.
One young person dying as a result of bullying is one too many.
No one should be forced to feel so miserable that they think killing yourself is the only option.
We must cooperate. Everyone must work to put an end to this, including teachers, parents, and students.
No one should have to experience loneliness.
Linda will always be grieving, and her daughter will never return.
Thousands of people have been moved by Cassidy’s tale, and I hope that many more will be.
