A Waitress From a Tiny Tennessee Town Turned Counting Stars Into a Country Song, and the Judges Could Not Agree

A young woman and a young man walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage. She introduced herself as Madelyn Tallent, and yes, Tallent is really her last name. It is on her birth certificate and everything 😄.

Her partner is her friend Malachi, who has a wife and a two month old son at home. They are not a couple, just friends who love making music together.

They come from Benton, Tennessee, a town of about 1,500 people. Madelyn joked that there is nothing there except dollar stores and churches, and not many musicians, so when she met Malachi, they had to play together.

Madelyn works full time as a waitress at a family owned restaurant called Big Tom’s. They had only been performing together for six months, and this was the biggest crowd she had ever played for.

They chose OneRepublic’s Counting Stars and turned it into a country song, with Madelyn’s warm voice on top and Malachi’s banjo driving the rhythm 🎶.

The judges said Madelyn was authentic, praised her voice and loved the chemistry between the two friends.

Simon was more careful. He loved her voice, but said that because the act was only six months old, it did not feel ready yet, like a meal that is not done. Another judge disagreed, saying that when you see someone’s potential, you should work with them straight away.

Madelyn promised they are hard workers and ready to do whatever it takes. In the end, the other judges said yes, and the two friends from a tiny town took their next step on the AGT stage 🌟.
