LeBron James and His Son Are Officially Teammates as Bronny Drafted by Lakers

LeBron James’ eldest child, Bronny, is now scheduled to make his NBA debut in the fall.

LeBron James’ son Bronny will be playing in the NBA!Bronny, 19, was chosen on Thursday, June 27, in the second round of the NBA draft by his father’s franchise, the Los Angeles Lakers, with the 55th overall choice.

According to the NBA, the father-son combination of James will make NBA history by being the first to play simultaneously.

Magic Johnson, a former player for the Lakers, posted on X, the former Twitter platform, congratulating Bronny James on getting picked by the Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron and Bronny are the first father-son tandem to play together in the NBA at the same time and on the same team, making this a historic occasion. It will be must-see TV to watch Bronny suit up for the @Lakers during Summer League in Vegas!

After spending one truncated season at the University of Southern California, Bronny, the eldest of LeBron’s three children, is currently scheduled to join the NBA.

ESPN predicted Bronny to be a top-10 NBA Draft choice in February of last year. However, Bronny’s draft standing declined as a result of health problems and a disappointing freshman campaign at USC.

Bronny is “nowhere near ready” to play in the NBA, which his father has dominated for the past 20+ years, becoming the all-time top scorer and earning four NBA Championships and four NBA MVP Awards. This was stated by an unidentified NBA general manager to The Ringer in April.

“Bronny is not even close to being ready,” stated the general manager. “Whether or not he’s playing with his dad, he should return to school so he can grow at his own pace and avoid getting lost in the shuffle.”

After going into cardiac arrest during a practice in July of last year, LeBron’s kid was unable to play in the first eight games of the NCAA season. Following a diagnosis of “an anatomically and functionally significant congenital heart defect,” Bronny was cleared to return to the starting lineup for USC’s December college basketball game, which his father attended.

Observing his son’s debut, LeBron told reporters, “was everything for my family.” “Everything about the day—from when we all woke up until the buzzer hit zeros—was emotional and exhausting.”

Bronny, however, had a difficult rest of the season; he started six of the team’s remaining 25 games and averaged just 4.8 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Throughout the NBA season, LeBron maintained his enthusiasm about his son’s draft prospects despite his setbacks.

According to Claire de Lune, an NBA contributor for The Guardian, LeBron was overheard in the Los Angeles locker room in January during a miserable run in which the Lakers lost eight out of ten games and fell out of postseason contention. Bronny “could play for us right now, easy.”LeBron’s final dream to complete his extraordinary basketball career has been to play in the NBA with his son Bronny’s squad.

After the 2023 season, LeBron declared, “I got to be on the floor with Bronny; I need to be on the floor with my boy.” “In a matchup against him or in the same uniform.”

According to ESPN, Bronny surprised scouts during pre-draft exercises by telling reporters that his goal is to play in the NBA and leave his father’s shadow behind in order to create his own legacy.

According to the publication, James stated, “My dream has always just been to put my name out there, make a name for myself, and of course get to the NBA, which is everyone’s angle in here.” “My dad has brought it up a few times, but I never thought about just playing with him.”

LeBron still needs to choose by June 29 to enter into the last year of his $51.4 million Lakers deal for the 2024–2025 campaign.
