Lee Collinson, 21, flew from England to America for the first time to audition for America’s Got Talent. By day he puts up fences for homes and gardens, and his dream is to quit that job and make music full time.
He chose Dermot Kennedy’s “Better Days.” He said the last few years had been hard for everyone and that the song was personal to him, because he lost a friend during lockdown. Back home it was early morning, and his mom had an alarm set so she would not miss his call. 🎶
His performance brought the crowd to its feet. One judge praised him for handling all that pressure on his first trip to America, another said he can sing, has stage presence and nailed it, and another said she had been hoping someone with such a beautiful personality would also have a great voice.
Simon told him he probably does not know how good he is, then asked to call his mom. On a video call with Sherry, he joked that her son was terrible before admitting he was only messing with her. She said she loved him so much, and Lee walked away with four yeses. 💛
