A 17-Year-Old Built an Entire Band by Herself on Stage, and Simon Loved Every Imperfect Second

Mia Morris is a 17 year old high school junior from Nashville, Tennessee. When the judges asked about school, she joked that she could live without it, and Simon agreed with a laugh.

Mia told them she is a songwriter and a multi instrumentalist. That night she was going to play one of her own songs as a one woman band.

Behind her stood drums, guitars and keys, and at her feet was the secret weapon, a loop pedal. Mia described it as a recording studio at your feet 🎛️. She records each sound herself, it plays on a loop, and hopefully it all comes together into magic.

Then she started building the song piece by piece, moving from one instrument to the next. The crowd cheered as the layers stacked up into a full band sound 🥁.

Heidi called it a lot of fun, and Sofia said Mia was one of the coolest girls ever to stand on that stage.

Simon was honest. He said at times it was a bit of a mess, but that it should be. It was not perfect, and that is exactly why he loved it so much. He said he would rather listen to someone original and talented than a singer with a backing track performing a song he had heard a million times.

It is all about originality, Simon said, and he gave Mia her first yes. Mia left the stage with a huge smile 🌟.
