A 24-Year-Old Waiter Who Looked Like a Rock Star Sang Nessun Dorma, and Simon Admitted He Had No Idea What to Think

Greg Pritchard on Britain's Got Talent

Greg Pritchard walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage with spiky hair, a leather jacket and the look of a rock star. He was 24, from Wales, and worked as a waiter in a local hotel to pay for his car and his bills. He said his dream was to become a worldwide performer.

When the judges asked if he hated his job, he admitted that he pretty much did. Everyone in the theater expected a loud rock song. Instead, he opened his mouth and sang Nessun Dorma in a high, soaring soprano voice 😲.

The audience was stunned at first, then rose to its feet. Greg explained that the term for his voice is countertenor, but that he thinks of himself as a male soprano.

One judge called it one of the most extraordinary things they had ever heard. Simon compared it to a dog meowing and said Greg had puzzled him. Then he admitted he had no clue what to make of it, but told Greg he was through 🎤.
