Chris Watts described how he brutally killed his pregnant wife and two young girls from a prison cell just inches away. His old cellmate is now disclosing terrifying exchanges he had with the murderous parent, including how Watts held “the harlot” responsible for everything.
Shanann Watts and her two daughters were reported missing from their Frederick, Colorado, home on August 13, 2018. When Shanann married Chris Watts in 2012, she was 34 years old and 15 weeks pregnant with Nico, the couple’s first baby.
Investigators discovered her body in a shallow grave on August 16. Meanwhile, the remains of Bella, 4, and Celeste “CeCe,” 3, were discovered submerged in separate oil tanks on an Anadarko Petroleum property where Watts was employed.
The now-40-year-old guy said he had no idea what had happened to his family and made a desperate plea for assistance on local television in the days between their disappearance and finding.
However, police were immediately finding contradictions in his account.
“He lies.”
Additionally, it was disclosed that Watts had started an affair with Nichol Kessinger, a coworker who hasn’t spoken in public since 2018, beginning in July.
She claimed to have no knowledge of the killings and to have thought Watts was separated at the time of their relationship in her lone interview, which was provided to the Denver Post shortly after Watts’ arrest.
She told the outlet, “I trusted him.” He lies. He was dishonest about everything.
Since then, she has relocated to a different area of Colorado and changed her name.
Confession and punishment
According to People, Watts first denied any participation in the inquiry but then confessed to killing Shanann and his daughters after failing a polygraph test.
As part of a plea agreement, he avoided the death penalty by entering a guilty plea to several counts of first-degree murder and additional offenses in November 2018. Due of safety concerns, he was eventually transported out of Colorado after receiving five consecutive life sentences without the possibility of release.
He was put in a facility designated for high-risk or high-profile prisoners at Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin, where he is now being kept.
“He’s my brother.”
During his time in Dodge, Dylan Tallman was assigned to Watts’ cell in 2020, and the two men shared a wall for seven months.
Tallman clarified in a 2021 interview with OK! that the distance between them was sufficiently thin to permit almost daily communication, covering topics such as Watt’s affair with Kessinger and the passing of his wife and kids.
In an interview with the publication, Tallman acknowledged that he thought his cell friend was innocent and clarified that he knew a side of Watts that few people had seen.
“There would be a picture of Chris if you looked up godly in the dictionary,” Tallman said to OK!.He is my brother. He has supported me when I needed someone to look out for me and been there when no one else was.
“Many women write him while he’s incarcerated.”
The two men talked about religion, self-image, and life choices as they became closer, forming what Tallman called a “spiritual connection.”
Tallman claimed that despite Watts’ frequent admissions of remorse over the romance with Kessinger, his obsession with women remained the same until his sentence.
He explained a pattern of conduct where Watts developed close bonds with women via phone conversations and letters and soon became connected to any lady who paid him attention.
Tallman told the Daily Mail that some even sent him money via the jail commissary system, saying, “He will talk to a girl, and she becomes his everything really fast.”
Many women write to him while he is incarcerated. He speaks with them frequently,” he disclosed. “He develops an obsession with a woman, and she takes up all of his thoughts. He will comply with their requests.”
“Harlot”
Watts reportedly discovered God while inside, and his religious experience became the main topic of discussion with Tallman, Watt’s “spiritual twin.”
Tallman clarified that Watts didn’t typically bring up the killings explicitly, according to the Daily Mail. Rather than just repeating what he had done, he filtered those conversations through the prism of Scripture, using references to spiritual metaphors or Bible stories.
He frequently cited biblical characters and used language from Scripture to describe his relationship with Kessinger in letters that the outlet analyzed.
In one message dated March 2020, Watts mentioned Kessinger and wrote, “The words of a harlot have brought me low.” Her complimentary remarks touched my heart and soul like drops of honey. I had no idea that every one of her visitors was in the execution chamber.
Tallman claims that Watts frequently depicted himself as a misguided individual and characterized Kessinger as a lady who had negatively impacted him.
“She has bad spirits.”
Tallman describes Watts’ account of the night he strangled his pregnant wife and drowned his daughters before disposing of their little remains in oil tanks in his book “The Cell Next Door.”
According to the book description, “Dylan remembers hundreds of conversations with Chris that reveal a lot of what happened the night he murdered his family.”Chris describes the murders and the circumstances leading up to what transpired in these essays. Chris acknowledges having an accomplice.
Watts allegedly told Tallman, “I was having an affair with this girl, and I ended up in love with two women at the same time.” It is the cause of what transpired. Like Jezebel, she is possessed by demonic spirits.
“He acknowledged that he was foolish to cheat on his wife, and he prayed daily for God’s pardon for his adultery,” he continued.
Watts had previously thought about challenging his conviction, but according to Tallman, those preparations have already been shelved.
He claims that he belongs there. And that perhaps after hearing about him, people would turn to Christ,” Tallman said.
