Flau’jae walked onto the America’s Got Talent stage in 2018 as a 14-year-old from Savannah, Georgia, with her mom there to support her. She introduced herself simply. She is a rapper.
Her reason for being there was personal. Her father, the rapper Camoflauge, lost his life to gun violence before she was born, and he never got to fulfill his dreams. She came to do it for him. 💔
She wrote the song herself and admitted she was scared to share it, unsure if people were ready to hear it. The judges told her that if she felt passionate about it, this was exactly what she should be doing.
Then she delivered “Guns Down,” an original rap with a clear message to put the guns down, because the people who were lost would still be here. It was raw, personal and full of heart, a daughter honoring the father she never had the chance to meet. ✨
