She Looked Too Shy to Sing, Then 14-Year-Old Shiane Hawke Took On Mercy

Vintage microphone with warm stage lights

Shiane Hawke was just 14 when she walked onto The X Factor Australia stage in 2012. Standing in front of a packed auditorium and the judges, she looked quiet, nervous and almost overwhelmed by the moment.

Then the music began and she launched into Duffy’s “Mercy”, a song that needs attitude, rhythm and soul. Her voice sounded far more mature than her age, and the shy girl from a few moments earlier seemed to vanish. 🎶

As her confidence grew, the audience started clapping along, and the judges watched with clear surprise at the transformation happening right in front of them.

In just a few minutes, a nervous teenager turned into a performer who owned the whole room. Shiane proved that the quietest person on stage can have the biggest voice. ❤️
