Anica is a singer from New Brunswick, and music has been with her since she was a child. As a kid, she said, she tried to stay invisible.
Her childhood was painful. She lived in nine different foster homes, and it was the last family who bought her a guitar. She could not believe it was really hers 🎸. Music helped her make sense of everything she went through and, in her words, it literally gave her a voice.
On the Canada’s Got Talent stage, she explained why she came. For years she had not talked about her childhood, and she wanted others who went through something similar to know that they can be happy if they keep their eye on the prize.
Then she played a rock version of Sia’s “Unstoppable”, with her guitar, her wild blonde curls and a huge voice that filled the theatre 🔥. The judges were throwing their arms in the air before she even finished.
One judge, who said she is also a survivor, told Anica she was an inspiration and that she deserves to be on a worldwide stage.
Then she said the words Anica never expected: “You deserve a Golden Buzzer.” Gold confetti fell from the ceiling, and the girl who once tried to be invisible stood in the spotlight with the whole room cheering for her 💛.
