In front of his boss, my husband addressed me as his housekeeper. This is the lesson I taught him.
I made the decision to work from home after our daughter was born in order to give my infant my whole attention. I couldn’t constantly be in excellent form because of this, of course. But my husband was accustomed to seeing me always put together, wearing nice clothes, and wearing makeup.
He values appearances highly, and he believes that a lady should always look flawless, regardless of the situation. In his line of business, finance, every little detail counts. He therefore prefers to be in the company of those who live up to this ideal.
He would notify me ahead of time whenever he wanted to invite friends or coworkers over so I could prepare and look nice. However, one day he unexpectedly brought his boss home with him. And he said, “Yes,” when his boss asked, “Is she the maid?” without even glancing at me, looking shocked.
I chose not to respond right away. Instead, I decided to participate in this charade and play along. I played the roles of our child’s nanny and “maid.”
The expense of this charade was unknown to my husband. I taught him a lesson he would never forget when his boss left.
After reading my narrative, leave a comment with your ideas. What would you have done in my case, and did he have the right to treat me this way, in your opinion?
I gave him a $500 bill for groceries, cleaning, and entertaining after his employer left.
He was taken aback.
I said nothing for the next few days.
And then, three days later, he returned with an apology and a spa gift card.
Although I acknowledged his apologies, I made it apparent that his actions had gone too far.
He had betrayed our mutual respect.
Although I’m not sure if I’m proud of my response, I do know that he will always remember this.
