Elena walked onto the Britain’s Got Talent stage in a white traditional outfit decorated with fringe and feathers, with a silver band across her forehead. She told the judges she comes from the Republic of Sakha in the northeast of Russia ❄️.
Asked why she auditioned, she gave a simple answer. She wanted to share her culture with the whole world. The judges did not even ask what she was going to do, they just wished her good luck.
Then she raised a small jaw harp to her lips. The tiny instrument produced a deep, twanging sound that filled the theatre, and Elena mixed it with her own voice and breath in ways nobody in the audience had heard before 🎶.
Some of the sounds seemed to come from nature itself, like galloping horses. People in the crowd stared at each other with their mouths open.
As the performance built, the audience started cheering louder and louder, and many of them were soon on their feet.
It was a performance that looked and sounded like nothing else on the show, and Elena did exactly what she came to do: she brought a piece of her homeland to the stage and made people remember it 🔥.
