Nobody in the Britain’s Got Talent audience had any doubt about what kind of singer Greg Pritchard was. He had spiky hair, a leather jacket and the attitude of a rock star. He told the judges he was 24, came from Wales and worked as a waiter in a hotel to pay his bills.
His dream was much bigger than waiting tables. He wanted to perform all over the world. When one judge asked if he hated his job, he smiled and admitted that he pretty much did.
Then the music began, and everyone expected a loud rock song. Instead, Greg sang Nessun Dorma in a high, clear soprano voice 😱. For a moment the audience was frozen, then people started to cheer and stand up. Greg later explained that the technical name for his voice is countertenor, but that he likes to call himself a male soprano.
One judge said it was one of the most extraordinary things they had ever heard. Simon was much more confused. He joked that it was like hearing a dog meow and admitted that he had no idea what to make of it. Still, he told Greg he was through to the next round ✨.
